Narashino High School Symphonic Band Collaboration and Performances
The middle of this month saw 130 students from Narashino High School in Japan visit the capital. Wellington College was lucky enough to be approached to host a number of the students and feature an in-school performance of the Symphonic Band from the High School. This group of musicians are internationally renowned for their performances and musicianship, touring regularly and playing at an incredibly high level.
Members of the Narashino High School Symphonic band were hosted by schools across the greater Wellington Region and performed at a number of schools and public venues. This included a performance to members of the Wellington College Concert Band and Orchestra and a group of senior music students here at the college, a public concert at the Michael Fowler Centre, and culminated with collaboration with a number of other bands at the Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua on the 25 March. The Wellington College Concert Band combined with Wellington Girls' College musicians to perform at the event and were invited to take part in an unprecedented combined performance piece specially written for the event and several hundred musicians that took part.
Our boys represented the College exceptionally well and came away from the experience excited and motivated having worked with international students playing at the very highest level of Symphonic band repertoire.
