Science is a compulsory subject at Wellington College from Years 9 to 11. The Year 9 and 10 courses introduce the students to the main areas of Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science and Astronomy. Students engage in a range of practical work and learn how to plan, carry out and report on scientific investigations.

All Year 9 and 10 students participate in the College Science Fair, with the best entries going on to the Regional Fair.
Year 11 students work towards NCEA Level 1 standards in Science. There is one accelerate class of Year 10 students working on NCEA Level 1, and one class of Applied Science for students having difficulty in Science.
In Year 11, students may also opt to study one of Year 11 Biology, Physics or Chemistry.
Year 12 and Year 13 students may opt to study any of Biology, Physics or Chemistry, and these three departments run successful programmes to prepare students for the NZ Scholarship qualifications.
